For thrill seekers, there’s more to Halloween than costumes and candy—there are ghosts, ghouls, monsters, aliens and murderous fiends lurking around every corner at Glendale’s haunted attractions. Grab a group of friends to hide behind and prepare for your heart to race at these haunted houses in Glendale and its neighboring communities.
42nd Haunt
Tucked in a cul-de-sac near North 42nd Drive and West Alameda Road, this family-run haunted house attracts brave souls from across the West Valley to wind through its terrifying scenes. Don’t let its neighborhood setting fool you. This haunted attraction hires actors, boasts professional-quality props and animatronics, and has its own gift shop.
Although 42nd Haunt doesn’t post age limits, kids should be old enough to tolerate seeing some blood and gore as well as able to actors jumping out at them. Non-scare tours run from 6 to 6:30 p.m. while the thrills start at 6:30 and go until 10 p.m. on October 16, 17, 23, 24, 25, 29, 30 and 31. A $5 donation per person is suggested.
AZ Field of Screams
During the day, Tolmachoff Farm’s corn maze is great fun for families, but when the sun sets on Friday and Saturday nights, the maze transforms into AZ Field of Screams. Characters hide behind the corn stalks on those nights, and you never know which turn will put you face-to-face with the undead. The haunted corn maze is so scary that it is not recommended for anyone under the age of 13.
AZ Field of Screams takes over Tolmachoff Farm’s corn field from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. on October 2, 3, 9, 10, 16, 17, 23, 24, 30 and 31. The cost is $30, and you can purchase a combo ticket for $37 that allows you to visit the maze before the sun sets and for the haunted experience.
Dark Harvest
Just southwest of Glendale, this new haunted attraction at Thomas Road and 99th Avenue features four haunted attractions: Ravenhurst Manor, Dead Acres, The Lost Ones and Zany Zeppy’s Pizzeria. There’s also a midway with entertainment, live music, food and creepy characters ready to pounce when you turn your back.
Most visitors spend two to four hours exploring. Although there are no strict age limits, Dark Harvest recommends visitors be at least 12 years old. Prices range from $20 to $35 depending on the date you plan to attend. Tickets are the least expensive mid-week and more expensive on weekends and the closer you get to Halloween.
The Crypt Haunted Attractions
If you can’t get enough of haunted attractions, head to Phoenix for The Crypt Haunted Attractions. This contact haunt—yes, the actors can touch you—has it all, including a beer garden, food trucks and free parking, plus six attractions: The Asylum, The Crypt, Sinister House, Carnevil Chaos, Urban Legends and Slaughter House.
The terror begins October 2 and haunts the living on select dates through November 7 p.m. from to 10 p.m. during the week and 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. During “Hell Week,” the week leading up to Halloween, the haunted attractions are open daily. Tickets cost $40 for general admission with an additional $20 upgrade available for a fast pass. A VIP pass gives you the benefits of both plus photos with the actors and more for $65.
13th Floor Haunted House
One of the “Top Five Most Terrifying Haunted Houses in the USA,” according to USA Today, this attraction is about 20-minutes’ drive from Historic Downtown Glendale (where you can enjoy a pre-scare dinner) and has three urban-themed attractions: Dead City Uprising, The Reaping Grounds and House of Flesh. There’s also a Zombie Splat GellyBall Experience that lets you shoot live actors with colored water balloons, mini-escape challenges and a secret tiki bar.
Tickets start at $22.99 with prices increasing the closer the date to Halloween, when tickets cost $39.99. You can also purchase an upgraded Fast Pass ticket for $56.99 or a Skip The Line ticket for $69.99 instead. 13th Floor Haunted House opens September 19 and runs on select dates through November 1.
